Hi to be honest none of them really fit without to much messing around. but for closeness to the original motor the old 330 cubic inch 6D from the Thames trader truck of the 50s early 60,s would be the best betbut are getting harder to find :( . you still have to mess with frame rails and hood / steering rod lenght and alter the wishbone for the front axle. but the original cooling fan and radiator hoses fit with out modification . it will also be an upright motor the later truck ones are slanted so you would have to find a 360 or 380 from the 2700 series combine maybe bus or industrial to get an upright sump model and there is a whole load of other things that are a pain on those to make them fit from my own experiences over the years.
most industrials/ combine motors are set to run flat out so the govenor on the fuel pump is not the same for pulling through the rev range like trucks and stuff are  . if you go to the ford and fordson conversions and look there some guys are doing conversions look at the Australian one i think that's the motor you need . Im sure some others will comment on my post too so we will see what anybody else thinks and hopefully you will be able to decide whats best :) .

Hi Nathan,

Please check the topic "This and that of 590e" on the Conversions-part of this board.
590e is the name of the engine, that is mostly the same as the 4 cylinder Major engine.
Best regards,
Pascal

Hello,
am probably the Australian doing the conversion mentioned.

The sump, side rails and the Bonnet are the hardest things to streach, but not too difficult.
( I have yet to resolve the sump issue )

The steering drag link obviously will need to be extended too.
Clutches are a consideration also, truck ones have springs and the tractor ones do not, I have used the truck flywheel, plate and pressure plate in the new major and in the Super Major I am going to use the two stage clutch though thsee are apparently not as durable as the single clutches.

There are a few variations in the truck engines the same as the tractors and if you are fussy it should be possible to fit the same style of injector pump as the Fordson you are fitting it too.
Be warned though there are two distinctly different block configureations as the latter one fron 4th month 62 from memory, had a block upgrade and the injection pump from these will not fit the eariler ones.

I have early and late truck engines her as well as early and late Industrial ones and even a K series one so I can see the differences clearly.

Obviously there are other things that I have not mentioned like the two different tacho rotations depending weather it is before 4 / 62 or after.

I have not gone for the K series or D series engines as they are a bit more difficult to fit and do not look as neat.

Have a look at the topics mentioned I have used these and they have been invaluable to me.

Mike
