3 PtH weight limit?
3 PtH weight limit?
I've searched here and elsewhere but haven't found any indication of the lifting capability of the 3 pth on any major. I realize that physics would dictate, on a standard Major with Live PTO and no ballast on the front tires, anything over 3560 lbs (1615Kg) would start to lift the front wheels off the ground. but I can't find the mechanical limit of the hydraulics/3 pth. Does anyone have this data?

I don't know what the weight limit is in pounds. The unloading valve should be set to 2000-2200 psi, so it should pop or the front wheels should come off the ground before you break anything. But I did manage to break a lift arm on my Dexta when I picked up the front of an Allis Chalmers 5040.

As JC states, watch the psi, the pumps will pop. Been there and done thatJC wrote:I don't know what the weight limit is in pounds. I have a preasue gauage now mounted to the valve chest so I can keep a watch on the preasure in the system.
Good luck.

Whirly,
I can't locate anything on the New Major, but the E27N had a lift capacity of 3248lbs and the Dexta had a lift capacity of 1850lbs max.

Thanks all for the info.
Where exactly did you mount the pressure gauge on your Power Major
A picture would be very instructive.

Sounds like a great idea GmanGman wrote:... I have a preasue gauage now mounted to the valve chest so I can keep a watch on the preasure in the system.

Re: 3 PtH weight limit?
I'm working on a Lien back loader. It's stuck in the up position. To try to get some movements in it, I drive the manure scraper in to a dike and lift it. The loader won't go down so far, but the major just lifts up his front and then the pump will pop. Just as JC says.
The 1000 kg wil be just on the ends of the liftarms I think.

That converts to 2,204 LBS which is more than a US ton which is 2,000 LBS. More than I thought it should lift at the lift balls. Dandy Dave!dexta roadless wrote:It should lift around 1000 kgs

Hi whirly, you will need to check the parts manual because I believe the valve chest has british threads then I had to use adapters to connect preasure gauge.whirly wrote:Thanks all for the info.

Hi whirly, I have the gauge set so I can look down and see it when it hits the 2000psi range and I also listen to the pump, once you have cracked one
you learn. Main thing is making sure your unloading valve is working which I believe mine is sticking again so I believe I may take the one out of the Major I have for parts and see if it works better. As to pics, I use imageshack, you can resize it for the forum, copy it from there and paste it here, once you learn how to do this it is very easy to post pics on here.
