Need help with injector pump drive assy

Post by jmfuhrman »

My brother recently purchased a 1962 super major. The fiber disc in the injector pump drive was broken. After looking on many tractor parts sites and finding only 1 type of replacement injector drive pump assembly I ordered it. After taking off the old injector pump drive assembly I found that the pump side of the new injector pump drive assembly has a smaller hole and keyway and won't fit the shaft. I am wondering where I can get the right injector pump drive assembly to fit? Or is it possible to take off that side of the new pump drive assy and replace it with the old one I just took off the tractor in order to make it fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are two drive shafts on Majors, the earlier tractors had a smaller shaft and keyway, the Supers have a larger one. From your post I gather that the fibre drive coupling has broken. New ones are available from a number of parts suppliers and even on E-Bay.

Thank you for the information Brian. Do you know where I can get the correct injector pump drive assy? All of the places I have found have the same part number as the one I already have. Are the fiber drive couplings the same on both of the drive assy?

It was the same fibre coupling from 1952 to 1964 so there would be no problem with that. It is only a quick job to fit.

Is there a reason to change the other parts or are you trying to fit the industrial "silent" coupling? If you are going for that one then you need to get one from a later engine.

Thanks again Brian. No I need the whole injector pump drive assembly because parts of it are also broken. Can you tell me where I can find one with the larger shaft size drive assembly?
