Hi All,
I will be changing the rope seal on the back of the engine as I have a decent oil leak from the back of the engine. when I have it split is there anything else I should be checking for or replacing, I am asking as I do not have the facilities to carry out this work at my own place I am bringing the tractor to my mates and performing the split with his help over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, with this in mind I will have to have purchased any seals etc before the weekend in order to be ready for all eventualities.
Thanks for all the help in advance.

Rope Seal
I don’t know what I am doing!
Re: Rope Seal
I think I would be looking at maybe changing the clutch whilst in there. It would be a difficult job for me to do without decent workshop facilities so I would want to sort out everything in there at the same time.
Watch out for the possibly asbestos clutch dust.

In fact, if funds allow, I would reburbish the clutch and pressure plate, pilot bearing, thrust bearing and also check the clutch cross shaft for wear & also change the cross shaft bushes.
The thrust bearing release spring should be fine, but if it isnt, (the clutch pedal doesn't return very well), then dont bother replacing it, just get it in a vice, unwind it a quarter turn and then bang it in a hot oven for a while to "stress relieve" it.

After all that, there isnt too much else in there to sort out.
It sounds drastic but all easy jobs, and it is better to do it first time round. (Believe me I know

My brother and I are like a formula 1 team at splitting our dexta, 28 mins flat

It was like that when I found it.... & I wish I had left it alone!
