modifications to the front axle of my major.

When i got my major the fron axle pivot bin and bush where totally worn out as you can see here it was the actuall casting wich has worn away the only way i managed to remove the pin was by one end with a gas torc as some one previously had tried to hit it out and mushroomed the pin.







i wanted to see if i could save the original casting so i took it to a local hydraulic ram repair center as they where the only people with the machinery i knew that may have been able too repair the casting.
this is what they where able to do for me.










the casting was bored out and new bushes made to fit also a new center pin with a grease point was made to fit.
i am very happy how well this repair has worked

Thats the best way to do it.
Drill it out, and then bush it back to original size. Dont forget to grease it.

That's a good idea! Is this a standard pin, or your own modification? Is the pin hardened steel?
I wonder if this idea would work on a Dexta?

all i know its the same steel as hydraulic ram cylinders the pin i though to add a grease nipple to increase the lifespan a bit
you could certainly get it done on a dexta

WELL DONE! That's the way it should have been built in the first place. Grease is CHEAP, especially compared to major repairs. I've seen a brake line modified as a remote grease fitting to a joint that was extremely difficult to get at. When they're easy to reach, they tend to get lubricated a lot more often!

grease may be cheap but the modifications certainly where not cheap
