1963 New Performance Super Major rebuild
The story so far in the rebuild of my New Performance Super Major
It has had a replacement engine in its past and its new engine number starts with an S so it can't be dated from that.
The rest of the cast codes lead to it being from around August 1963.
Work to date...
Replaced PTO transfer casting.
Replace roller and pin in hydraulic lever control linkage.
Free off stuck unload valve for hydraulics.
Skim cylinder head.
Regrind inlet & exhaust valves.
Replace PTO/rear end seal.
Replace gearbox input shaft seal.
Re lined brake discs.
Replace king pin bushes.
Repaired cracked gear lever housing.
Cleaned and rebuilt starter motor and dynamo.
Repaired many minor areas where possible, replaced if not possible.
Shotblast and paint...
The day it arrived. July 2004.
A bit of light work to find all the oil leaks etc. May 2005.
Strip down begins. January 2008.
Why the PTO and hydraulics didn't work.
Wear on the hydraulic lever linkage.
Replacing seals.
Suppliers badge.
Ready to go off for shotblasting.
Shotblasted and primed.
Disguising the dent in the diesel tank.
Patching up the holes in the cowling.
Top coat applied.

Nice work.
How did you get over the broken pto idler gear housing? Finding replacements is very difficult.
Any more photos to come?

The broken bits and the gear were missing. I ended up getting a complete replacement housing from a breaker, I think it was Pocock if I remember rightly.
More photos to follow as work progresses.

Re: 1963 New Performance Super Major rebuild
The tractor last ran in January 2008 so after the paint we were eager to get things back together and start it again.
I took this video a few weeks ago of its first start up in almost 5 years.
