FM underslung exhaust - description

Post by porteous »

I was asked the size of my underslung exhaust. The assembly is in 3 parts, as seen in the photos below:

1. Downpipe (15 1/2 inches from manifold to top of silencer). Silencer : ht 7 1/2 inches l 18" w. 3 1/2 to 4"
2. Cranked pipe. 54"
2 tailpipe bend. 6"

These were maunufactures by
Cox & Martin Engineering,
Huish Farm, Yeovil Rd
Tintinhull
Yeovil
Somerset
BA22 8QL
United Kingdom

Phone: 01935|826816

I can thoroughly recommend them, very heavy guage construction. It sounds just right too.

In the Condie Fordson New Major 1951-64 booklet there is a photo of an underslung exhaust with a short extension (approx 6") attached immediately after the expansion box. The extension is cranked through more than 90 degrees to throw the exhaust gases forwards. Did this work (ie did the driver manage not to be gassed?!). If so, does the manufacturer of the repro exhausts offer this option?

Regards

Adrian

Hi Porteous
Thanks for the measurements :D That should help me match something close to the right size, I wish I Knew somebody with a shipping container coming close to us in Manitoba . That would mean I could get 2 of these shipped easily and solve the problem that way if the guys still had them in stock:) .
Thanks Again :)
Regards Robert

Robert;
Why not send them an e-mail? They may be prepared to Fedex the items. Alternatively why not make them an offer for a set of drawings? The worst that can happen is they say "no".

Regards;
David

Yes I would love one for Christmas Are you offering to buy it for me :wink: , I've been good all year Promise :). Oh hang on that's the line i'm supposed to use in the letter to Santa :wink: :lol: :run: at 275 quid plus exchange rate at $1.60 and shipping, it would cost more for the exhaust than I paid for the whole tractor :cry: , Plus I still have to restore it :wink: so sadly looks like the non original route for me, using your measurements that you kindly got for me :D .
