Super Major -62
Re: Super Major -62 (engine rebuild)
I have bought two of those engine re-build kits and had only one problem, that was that on the double o-ring liner, the top o-ring was far too big, i rang up and got them changed but the bloke said that they have a massive tube full of them and three thousand new ones (the wrong sized ones) had been chucked in so some poor bugger had to go through all of them and get the faulty ones out, so beware!
Other than that though i have personally had no issues, and my majors run fine.

Some previous "repair"man has overtightened the oil pump inlet pipe

Also camshaft and lifters has to be renewed...

Ouch!
Looks like Captian Caveman doctored on the beast at one time. Someone on here recently had problems with an aftermarket cam. Best to get an original one. Dandy Dave!

Re: Super Major -62 (engine rebuild)
Problem = Lack of Power and poor starting. I sometimes think the aftermarket manufacturers use a bad cam for a pattern and copy it wear and all. I have also seen this with a Caterpillar D-8H engine with an aftermarket cam installed.
You will have to search tractor breakers in your area for a good cam. Dandy Dave!

Ok. I asked from Agriline about the camshaft they are selling, and they said that the cam profiles are same as original
I also found good used camshaft, but its fitted with three bolts. In my Major its fitted with one bolt.. Can I fit this three bolt cam if I change also the gearwheels

No. It won't work. That cam was designed to use the older narrow timing gears. It had a thrust washer. Yours doesn't. Your front mounting plate is different too.Broadspeed wrote:I also found good used camshaft, but its fitted with three bolts. In my Major its fitted with one bolt.. The cord thickness is 3/32" for the top one and 3/16" for the bottom. I don't know the diameter, though.Broadspeed wrote:Can someone tell the correct sizes for the o-rings?

Re: Super Major -62 (engine rebuild)
Ok, thanks. Diameter I can measure from liner.
Yesterday went to get new licence plate (Major has been in road use last time in 1988). Plate ordered with original numbers and same time I heard that I am third owner. First owner was 1962-2010, second 2010-2013 and me 2013->
Now only waiting parts from Agriline.

Did you establish the cause of the original failure of your engine?

Didn't find anything else wrong, but the oil pump cover which was cracked. maybe the reason is that? Everything else looked very good..
