Dexta in the basement bar

Post by AdrianNPMajor »

Does anyone know the story of the Dexta in the basement bar of Boreham House in Essex in the 60's? Brian does, I know! It involves some pretty clever Canadian mechanics.

Brian, the extremely knowledgeable ex-Ford and Fordson mechanic who set up my NP Super hydraulic lid, used to attend the Ford agricultural college based at Boreham House in Boreham, Essex. It's a large Grade 1 listed mansion. For recreation it had a bar in the cellar for staff and students to unwind in. Apparently the bar was not very roomy and was reached by a narrow windy staircase.

Brian told me that an event took place in the bar that went down in the history of the college. At the end of their course a group of Canadian apprentices got up in the night, dismantled a Dexta, and took it bit by bit, or chunk by chunk more like, down to the basement bar where they reassembled it. They even filled it to the required levels with oil.

The barman got a surprise the next day when he went down to open up! :scratchhead:

I wonder if anyone else knows about this? Our Brian on this site does, or so I believe.

Best
