backend oil level

hi
question about oil levels on a early major diesel , pre cleaner under bonnet.

the dipstick near the gear lever is only gear box ??
how do u dip the backend ?

its on one i saw 4 sale a while ago we were happy with the oil level but we both thought that there was only one dipstick , but dose it have two like a dexta ??/?

back end is the dipstick, gearbox is filler cap forward of that, backend is filled from behind the seat

were is the level for the g box ?

oil on dipstick was cream and very high , full of water i guess
general lack of power in hydaulics due to creamy oil i guess ??

but general tractor a bit rough un prob best left alone :roll: money pit springs to mind.

will that engine start even if well worn ? runs with lots of smoke and little oil pressure ./ just showing on guage on a VERY cold day .

found the manual on the wiki
the plug is the g box and the dipstick the back end ?

oil change for backend and gearbox is nearly £200 that's before you've looked at anything else

From what you say about this tractor run like the wind :wink: ,They say round here A major motor would probably start with 2 pistons missing and run half decent, if you could get enough easy start in it to get the other cylinders firing.

I have had some here that guys brought thinking they where good due to fantastic starting. Not so good when it's $2000 plus to re build as it was totally worn out,for example no oil pressure and smoking badly.
The seals could be bad between the pto and gearbox/ rear axle input as well for high level in the axle not only water contamination :!: .
To be honest and I don't like to say it often with Fordsons, I would think the best thing for it sadly would be get it a passport and send it on a boat trip to china :cry: .
But I think you already know that :)

i wasnt looking for the model , just a m8 offered it .

he believes it will make the money on fleebay
if im asked again then make a low offer i tink ,
or just one to buy and stick in the corner of a dry shed, hoping it value increses.

the 'oil' in the air filter was basicaly dirty/ greasey soil :cry: :cry: :cry:

If it's an original key it might make good money on Ebay :wink: :lol: .
It kinda looks to me like if a person wants scrap money for rough majors, and the guys in your area they sell, for a couple of quid :cry: .
I watch the majors on there pretty often. The nicer ones don't seem to sell with the high start bids that often either with what guys have in them :( . It's pretty funny to see stuffed tin work and the motor by the bit on there too, and what some muppets think that junks worth at their starting bids :| .
To be honest I can't see majors being worth the investment unless it's an unusual or very original un restored model. There are way to many of them around. nobody shows them here in Manitoba not even E27Ns that often, but lots are out still working or in the bush :!: .
I wish I had more time to take mine out :) . I remember the shows back in the U.K with loads of them, That was 13 years ago, so what it must be like now I don't know. I'm thinking It must be more of a spot the right restored one competition, with all the different repro parts and shades of paint and orange grills :lol:.

talked to the seller other day , about something else , major sold last month , he says £800 , was askin me £1000 ish , I was gonna bit him 600

for the best , more money would be better spent on a a tidy super or power I think.
I thought it was a early one , the purchaser confirmed this after he'd loaded it :beer:
even when it restored its a basic spec.
I aint got enough time or money , space for the crap I already own , no wait stop I'm agreeing with my girl friend
