Introducing myself

Just joined and also just became a Fordson owner.. We think it's a 55 (all main castings are Jan 1955), engine serial says it's a Sept 59 but it doesn't match a "Power Major" but rather is a New Major Diesel.. Came with a backhoe and farm style loader.. Runs great, very few leaks and all tin/badging in place.. Don't know the make of the hoe but it looks like a Trojan with its high mount swing motor instead of cylinders.. Bucket has a badge and was made by a Canadian company from Fort Erie..

For now the old girl has some work to do, then she may get a fresh paint and minor fluff..

Her new home is now near Sauble Beach in Ontario Canada..

Have already learned a great deal on this board, thought I better join so I can offer up any answers I may actually have!

We did take 'first come home' pics.. On a camera that is a pain to get the card out of but will post some soon.. Still have to sort the age of this old girl out 100% but have to assume a 55, just not sure why she got a motor from 59 in her..

OK, couple of pics, had to set up a photobucket account These are after 55 years of grease and oil and before 5 hours of pressure washing.

If anyone recognizes the hoe attachment, feel free to chime in! I can see where a tag used to be (on inside base of boom right at controls) but it's not there and I can't see any thing else to give light to its age or make.

Can't see much of the tractor due to the loader frame..

The lights on the fender pointing to the rear must be a Canadian thing All the old majors I have picked up in Manitoba that still have them fitted are pointing to the back. I'm Kinda thinking as the export ones here didn't have the red rear fender lights, they flipped the tear drops over to make them comply with regulations here.But it seems odd to have white showing to the back .

Welcome to the forum Nice looking tractor and loader Backhoe you have there Kinda wishing it was mine could work it here for about a month solid . Im wondering if that hoe is similar to whats on a Massey loader/ digger as the slew motor is on the top like this too . The motor swap is a common thing on Majors, so not the end of the world for a working unit, It's nice to have the original if a guys going for an as new restoration though .

Thanks guys.. Ya pretty sure tractor was Canadian spec as the loader is the same age and is made in Ontario.. Not sure on the hoe, will keep looking at Massey's.. The few I could find with swing motor's had the motor buried in the middle of the pivot assembly instead of on top like this one.. Works well though, swing for some reason goes lazy to the extreme left sometimes, will drop way down in power and will drift towards the lean of the tractor.. 10 mins later it is solid as a rock in the same spot.. Hoping once I get the PO's gear oil out of the system and replace it with hydraulic (seperate pump, tank and controls from main tractor) maybe it will be happier..

Just in case someone finds this posting searching for the make of their backhoe for as long as I searched... Turns out the hoe you see in the pictures of my tractor is a Henry Manufacturing unit. Probably a Mark I or a Mark II. They were made for several brands but mostly for Allis Chalmers (which also explains the bright red paint under the yellow) until eventually being bought out by Allis.. "HENRY" is cast into the boom to stick knuckle. The swing motor will be a Cessna Hydraulics unit.

Beyond that I haven't been able to dig up much more info, but like I said, took forever to find that info, if this saves someone else all the digging then perfect!
