Generator or Alternator?

Generator or Alternator?

What would you guys say is better a alternator on my fordson.major or standard charging with voltage box? If sooo how would i wire up a alternator to it thanks any info would be great as it os not charging at all

My personal opinion is to keep it original. That would mean that you would keep the Generator/ Dynomo & Regulator/ voltage Box.

Wiring in an Alternator would depend on which brand that you install. Some have external regulators, and some have internal regulators. Dandy Dave!

It depends whether you want to use your tractor for work, or whether it's for occasional vintage rallies etc.

Alternator is simpler & better for keeping your battery fully charged. Mine only has two wires, no control box, but alternators need -ve earth. Search on here (or google something like 'fordson alternator wiring') for a suitable wiring diag. Here's mine for a Dexta, principles will be same for a Major:

The wiring set-up for an alternator can be found in the post dated May 27 2012 under 'Correct wiring for an Alternator"
