Moving on a Ifor Williams CT136HD

Hi everyone!

I'm intending to move a 1953 using a CT136HD towed behind my van (slowly!).

If the Fordson weighs 2400kg & the trailer is rated at 2100kg it'll be overloaded but not too badly.

I just wanted to check I've got the weight correct & ask you guys what you think of the idea. It's obviously naughty but I'm hoping it'll work if I'm careful

I would not advise you to do that under any circumstances. You do not say what van you are using and the towing rate of that is as important as the trailer. It could be very costly if anything went wrong and you got stopped as you will have negated your insurance.

Yup. And it is not whether you can make the load move, But whether that can you STOP the load SAFELY in all conditions. Going down hill you can Jackknife and really make a mess of everything. The heavier the transport vehicle, the better.

I move mine on a 7,000 LBS two axle trailer pulled by either a 1/2 ton Chevy Suburban 4X4, or a 1 ton Dodge 4X4 Duelly. Needless to say, the old Dodge works the best. I would not even attempt it with anything lighter than the Suburban as the old Power Major is enough load and you can feel it pushing behind you. And I keep my Trailor brakes in excellent condition. Brian and Dave have said it all. Tractor too heavy for trailer, and tractor/trailer combination likely to be too heavy for the towing vehicle. Not much about this idea that is advisable. I collected my Major from the Isle of Ely on a transporter lorry that I hired for £190 for the day. Bit of an outlay, but what price do you put on safety?

I saw sense in the end & we found a 7.5t beavertail locally for £150 so it all went well

It's a good-looking runner with just some details to sort-out, the main one being it needs a battery (the owner didn't want to let go of the one he had for it). What size do most of you use? It starts well now but it'll live outside & be used in the winter so I need reliability.

I use a 643 on both rusty and the little grey f....e both start well

I just put a 1000 CCC 12 Volt Battery in my FPM in the summer months. In the Cold months, you will want more! Dandy Dave!

The Alphaline MF31-1000 Battery looks like a good bet then (1000CCA for £99 330x172x242mm)

What sort of tyre pressures do you run? The field is half a mile away by road so I guess I'm after a compromise.
