Speedy sleeves

Post by Nick »

Hi guys, I had an annoying oil leak from the front crank seal on my major, so I replaced the seal in the timing cover and it was ok. The tractor was left for about 4 months, and then I decided to dig it out on saturday to finish the project off. I started it and it was fine, drove it down the road to my new workshop and when i got there, oil was coming out of that seal again, which is really annoying.

When the engine is idling it doesnt leak, but when revved, it comes out. This means i assume that the pulley has a slight groove in it so I need a speedy sleeve. Ive never had to use one before, i assume you measure the surface that isnt worn for the size of the sleeve?
Oh yay, look, another seized bolt! Lets get a hammer.....and some kano.....and some cider!

You might have a crack in your pulley as I did.

I was about to get it welded and a SpeediSleeve from Bearings & More (v helpful), but got a good 2nd hand pulley from Malcolm Hipperson.

I used a speedi sleeve on the crankshaft pulley of my tractor and it has stopped the leak. You need to know the diameter of the pulley boss and then choose a sleeve for that diameter.

Have a look on this site www.simplybearings.co.uk and then look under engineering parts.

This is where I bought mine. SpeediSleeves are not cheap but they are cheaper than the alternatives - and better. This one is the right one for the Major.
