Electrical device placement

Hi all,

Could anyone tell me where the voltage regulator and the solenoid mount? The battery box has a possible mounting spot for the solenoid which seems to place it in a verticle position. I know the regulator has to be close by the solinoid, but I see no mounting spot.
Another question is my tractor came with batteries tied together negative to negative, positive to positive. The book does not show it that way. Which is right I just had my starter and generator worked on and don't want to destroy them. I do understand that hooking the batteries up as above gives you 24 volts. Won't that be a little hot for my 12 volt starter? I plan on turning the headless engine over to distribute the oil. Maybe turn it over with one battery is the right way to go?

Hey Kerry,

Not sure about your reg / sol query (on my '58 the solenoid was above the starter on a bracket to the bell housing bolt IIRC, currently dangling on its wires, reg under the intrument scuttle) but if your batteries are neg - neg and pos - pos as described then they are in parallel so this gives 12 volts but at twice the amps of a lone battery, if they were earth - pos [batt] neg - pos [batt] neg - sol then they would be in series and you would get 24 volts out.

May have used a couple of weaker or cheaper batteries to give enough cranking speed

Original Batteries were 6 volt and wired to give 12. With two 12 volt batteries it is right wired ++ and --. Yes, the regulator and solenoid mount near where the Air Cleaner is mounted on the battery side. Dandy Dave!
