Re: Negative/Positve ground ?
Old two banger JD's are started with the flywheel spun anti clock wise. But if you think about it, it is a right hand engine as #1 cylinder is on the Belt pulley side. If you stood the engine up with the flywheel to the rear like our Fordsons, it would be cranked right handed from the front. I can think of a few left handed engines. The Galloway is one, also, an early Brush automobile. Also New Way engines. Now, back to our Fordsons. Dandy Dave!

As far as priming the oil pump. Take out the oil pressure sending unit and prime it there. Dandy Dave!

Yes DD; I Googled this and found a U.S. forum. It's amazing just how many anti-clock motors there were and still are. It mentioned early V Dubs, Renault engines in the 2CV plus others I've never heard of. Also mentioned were some stationary engines that could be started either way. I also remember, as a lad, the single cylinder Field Marshall which could, when it came off compression, start backwards, throw the handle into the air -- along with your thumb if not careful. For some reason cartridges were always in short supply.

One that come to mind is a Fairmont, Used for RR Track maintenance cars. 2 cycle and could run either direction. A lot of early boat motors were the same principal.

Re: Negative/Positve ground ?
Looking forward to priming the engine via the oil sending unit hole next chance I get to work on her. B T W, would the priming be accomplished by gravity flow from a long tubed funnel with the engine turning over? Where can I expect to see oil first, the hole in the top of the block, out the oil filter hole, or the hole under the injector pump gears? Where is the best place to install a perminant oil pressure gage, and does the hole in the block under the injection gears normally get a plug installed?
Thanks for the help once again

The best place to install a line for a gage is in the same port as where the sending unit is. You could even "T" it off to have the light and a gage. I'm not sure where you will see oil first. Most likely out of the same hole you prime it. Dandy Dave!

Re: Negative/Positve ground ?
Thanks Dave ,
I like the idea of a light at the gage, will do that for sure. After priming the engine, then the head, rocker arms, manifolds, generator, P S pump, radiator, various other bits. Still have to figure out power steering ram cylinder opporation. Have put it together a half dozen times according to drawings and it still does not seem to make sense. When all is good and tight, I have no movement of the ball joint attached to the valve that moves the rod in and out. Only body parts left to fix and paint are the fenders/wings. Previous owner did some bad welding on makeshift parts that are supposed to be the brackets that bolt to the rear axel and the fenders. Original Brackets on fenders are mostly rusted out and gone the first 6 to 8 inches up from the bottom. Not going the new route, shipping is prohibitive and at least the sheet metal on mine is all good.
Thanks for everyone's help

Thanks for the help!
My engine drank down some oil from a funnel/tube into the oil pressure hole as I cranked her over multiple times. started seeing oil come out the filter boss, I filled the filter canister up and screwed it on, started cranking again until oil finally came up to the top of the block. Very pleased this morning as I hurried off to work. Can't wait to get back to continuing the rebuild this evening. Next is the head and either copper or fiber/metal head gasket.
Thanks again
