Warning Light Bulbs - Where to buy?
Re: Warning Light Bulbs - Where to buy?
Unless things have changed dramatically in the last 25 years since I was in the UK you should be able to get them at any garage or Halfords.
They are a 12v, 2.2w SCC [single centre contact] with the old Lucas part no. 987.

Hi
These bulbs were used in panel lights on old classic cars of the 1950s and 60s, as well as on tractors. I got my replacements from my local garage here in Dorset, whose owner is "into" classic Sunbeam saloons. Try any nearby classic car restoration company catering for 1950-60s Triumphs, MGs, Rootes group, etc. Good luck.

Where in the county are you ?
There is a parts outlet near Downham which I've seen those to the West rate in postings and perhaps someone will give details, To the East, David Wall in Hoveton (what most think of as Wroxham) restores classics esp Austin 7's may have some or would be able to source or advise, if you are this way PM me and I can drop in and have a word with him next time we go shopping.
Having just repaired my Tacho drive I have the bulb (which I shook out of the gauge) but need to repair the holder........
Just had a quick look on the CPC Components website, plenty of 12v low wattage bulbs but can't recall the designation of the base - they must still be about in shedloads like the side / tail bayonet size.

Sorry about that -- the 987 is MES [minature edison screw]. Halfords stock a 281 which is the bulb you require.

Re: Warning Light Bulbs - Where to buy?
Perhaps Pavel can confirm or otherwise that they are the same but ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12v-2-2w-BA9s ... 3cd1da5e07
or for 10
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-INSTRUMENT ... 460c4bd28c
Appear to be the kiddies other than marked MCC but look to be 2 equal height side pins with a single centre contact (Hence query to Pavel)
I pulled the one from my tacho which is EnFo marked, looks like 54H but a bit worn. dia is 9mm length 24mm
Didn't think of it at the time of last message but David at Mid Norfolk Tractors (Hainford / Frettenham) advertises as a Nuffield / Leyland specialist but is also very knowledgable on Fordsons and keeps some parts and can access most others.

Re: Warning Light Bulbs - Where to buy?
First thing I've done is to junk my early 60s Lucas bulb catalogue -- it' hopelessly out of date -- and downloaded their latest [Lucas Automotive Bulbs Catalogue]. It has descriptions, sizes, part nos. and diagrams.
Another website is: www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffystandardbulbs.htm which also has descriptions and by clicking on the red dot you can bring up diagrams.
All bulbs have a designation that indicate their metal cap type and size. For instance, BA7 has a cap diameter of 7mm; BA9 is 9mm, BA15 is 15mm. As an example the common stop/tail bulb with offset pins [part no. 380] is a BA15. With the BA7s and 9s there are also different glass globe diameters and lengths. With possibly rare exceptions all of these are single contact -- double contacts are in the BA15 range.
So; the 643 is a BA9 with a length of 23.5mm and a globe diameter of 11mm. The 288 is also a BA9 with a length of 18mm and a globe diameter of 9mm. Either of these could be the one that drz400 needs.
The 281 [a BA7] that I mentioned that Halfords advertised has the incorrect pic shown. It is NOT a bayonet push in and twist type but rather a push in only with crimps in place of the pins.
Unfortunately none of this shows drz400 where he can get one. Here in Oz I just take my old globe to our local [well, he's 25ks away] auto electrician and he hands me one over the counter -- as he recently did for my 1976 Triumph 2500 saloon.
Hope the above helps in some way.

Re: Warning Light Bulbs - Where to buy?
Hey thats a very handy resource Pavel, I've bookmarked it for future use.
I'm not clear if the Major concerned has the below tank instrument 'panel' or the gauges & throttle lever between tank and steering wheel, but suspect the indicator lamps will be the same for both.
The other bulb mentioned was for rear light and from the smashed remains of my holder these appear to have a larger body (1/2" possibly) like my S1 Landrover, these are widely available at all sorts of places locally.
I shall be up close and personal with the back of my instruments next week doing a regulator transplant, original bakelite with screwdown edge connections, replacement in Ali can with bottom bullet connections, hope there is enough space and 'wriggle room' plus a dry Tuesday when my old Nuffield M4 is due to be hauled out of the undergrowth and loaded for the trip to its new home ! Have rigged up a push pole which mounts through the crank handle hole on the Major tombstone casting and chains somewhere on the Nuffy front end as it has to go on the wagon backwards and has a heavy Sky Hi loader on the front......
