Two more tractors bought today

We acquired two more majors today from two different guys. This power Major my dad remembers as a kid as it was bought brand new by a neighbour of his. It was only used for 10 years on a 100 acre farm, when it was sold to a marina in Bayfield Ontario to dock boats during the summer months in Lake Huron (hence why it has the large tow bracket on the front of it). It did that job for 35 summers when it was sold to a guy who just stored it inside his body shop and never used it. The tractor really hasn't done much work and only has 2407 hours on it. The body shop was sold this week and the owner would rather sell the tractor then have to move it and store it again. We put a battery in it, checked and topped up all the fluids and it fired right up and I drove it home. Ironically, my place is only a mile cross country from the original farm it was sold to 56 years ago. The first thing on the agenda was to get the tow bar off the front and the next will be to get the front wheels painted orange again. I just had to put the Bushhog mower on it and put it to work cutting my pasture this afternoon. We really don't have any plans for it other than just to save it and have it as a back up in case something happens to one of our snow blower tractors in the middle of the winter.




The other has obviously been parked for a few years and is a basket case. It's part of an estate sale and the guy looking after cleaning things up called my Dad as he knew he would likely be the only person interested in it in the area. It's an industrial model with no PTO. We are just guessing that the loader is original and possibly a JCB model? We are just looking at saving the loader, possibly for our new Power Major, wheel weights take the factory power steering off it and pull the motor and then scrap the rest as the back end is full of water and seized.





That now makes a FMD loader tractor, a Power Major and two New Performance majors between my Dad and I.

I'd be willing to bet that just the disc brakes are seized up on the Super/loader tractor.

Nice catch. I see the Power Major has a raised PTO. I do not see a Live Drive Badge on the grill. After running it on the topper, you should have figured out if it is a live drive or not.

There is one picture there that gives a clue, even without a badge my moneys on it's live drive .

Never been up close and personal with a live drive box. What are the signs to look for?

The bracket hanging under the clutch pedal and running board, this has holes in it for a pin to stop the pedal from disengaging the PTO clutch.

Well I guess if for some reason that brackets there and it shouldn't be I won't be on my own, . It's funny that bracket or the distance between the clutch shaft and bell housing flange is the first thing i look for in pictures of majors advertised, on flea bay or other places. To see if they could actually be advertised right, the clutch through rod is not a 100% guarantee though . it could still be a dead drive after 56 ish, have seen one had a badge and the bracket but was dead drive, as the clutch housing was wrong it was from a pre live drive casting.

Slight off topic here have you seen the 63 super thats beautifully restored on flea bay U.k biggest problem is 50% being the whole rear end, fenders & linkage is power major and has 4 spoke cast fronts and wrong grills. Thinking the guys a cheat as I pointed this all out to him, and he said he was a collector and new it was wrong. It's been bid to sell 3 times and nobodys ever brought it. He re lists it right after 3000 U.K pound plus bids, and it has no reserve from what i see .
