Hello everyone,
I have recently purchased a Fordson power major with a front mounted saw bench fitted driven from pulley. I plan to restore the tractor this winter in my workshop and I would like to keep tractor as original as I can. I am based in Aberdeenshire Scotland the tractor has been in this area since brand new. When I purchased tractor it has a standard major rear wheel fitted and also a super major rear wheel with scallops out of dish. I was hoping that you experts could tell me which wheels were fitted to tractor when new as I am new to Fordsons we usually restore county and international tractors. The date of first registration of tractor is 6/1/59. Any help and advice on this would be very much appreciated. Also any advice on where to get parts such as wings, front cowling, footplates, seatpan etc would be good. I bought a original tachometer rev hour counter this week for £45.00 is this a good price as it is original and not a repro? Also when tractor is at high revs or driven on road it is throwing water out of overflow pipe it has a new water pump fitted would this be the cylinder head gasket? Thanks Derek

Re: Fordson power major rear wheels
Welcome to this board Derek,
Use the search option and you will find all your answers.
When you fill up the cooling reservoir it will through out some of it when the engine gets warm. At some point it will stop. So nothing is wrong I think.
You need the Super major wheel disk and the three holes cast iron front wheels.

Re: Fordson power major rear wheels
Hi Derek & welcome to the forum
I've a 1958 major and like you, have one disk and one scalloped rear wheel centre, I'd cheerfully swap my scallop for your disk but unfortunately I'm in Norfolk
I was surprised at how much water mine chucked out of the overflow when the rad was filled up, found it was running with an old diesel tank cap so bought a pressurised rad cap, when I told our local Nuffield expert he gave me a non pressurised cap to put on straight away as with an old engine, as they are wet linered with an O ring which may have got soft or cracked, it was not unknown for pressurised coolant to dump itself into the sump through these O rings, I took his advice PDQ
Happy tractoring
