Hi all,
Could someone please have a go at identifying my new ( old ) Fordson Major Diesel please ?
Here's a link to my first introduction post
http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... f=2&t=6225
Have just got it home today, no pics yet sorry but here's some of the numbers from it.
I think ? it might be a " bitsa " tractor ie:- bits of this tractor and bits of that tractor ?
Anyway, here goes.
Engine number S 383393 ( a replacement engine from what I've researched ? )
Casting on engine block above generator "4E21 "
Serial number on firewall says " Fordson Major, A Ford Product, Made In England , Engine number 352306" , there is a backwards looking number "7" ( or a miss stamped letter "T" maybe ? BEFORE the 352306 number but it's hard to read because its a little damaged in the stamping on this number/letter ? although it looks more like a bacwards stamped number 7 than a miss stamped letter T )
Under the seat is cast "J7X"
Front axle on left side ( as you face it from front of tractor ) is cast " I5J5 " , in the middle is cast "E27N 3016B " and on right side is "IF "and then a recess cast number " 2 "
Just above the clutch linkage is cast "K9X"
Cast into the gearbox below the gear shifter is the shift pattern as below
1 3 5 6
N
2 4 L H
REV
That's about all I could find on it before the sun set and too dark to see anymore.
Can anyone ID my tractor please ? would like to know it's year of manufacture especially.
Still learning about Fordsons as this is my first tractor.
Any help appreciated,
Cheers,
Terry

Terry,
Could the 7 or T be an one stamp. That will give 1352306 and would be a 8/1955
The engine is a replacement as you say.
4E21 = ???
J7X = july 7 1955
K9X = august 9 1955
1 3 5 6
N
2 4 L H
REV are the gears
Seems you have a view parts from a 55 model and a newer engine.
Are the brakes drum type or disk?
Is the lever for the hydraulics 90 degrees to the driver?
Is the throtlle under the steering wheel or next to the dashboard?

Thanks Henk,
Yes, the engine number ( of the original engine ) could have started with a number 1 , it wasn't stamped well and looked more like a number 7 in reverse or a letter T but if there's no engine numbers known with these starting letters/numbers then I guess it must be a number 1.
Yes the throttle lever is next to the dashboard and the hydraulic control lever is at 90 dgrees to the driver, haven't looked at the brakes yet to see whether drum or disc.
I guess by the original engine number being a 8/1955 and the gearbox being a August 9 1955 and the rear being a July 7 1955 then it could be construed that my tractor would/could be around a September to December 1955 build time ???
Probaby arrived here in Australia late 1955 or early 1956 perhaps ??
Cheers,
Terry.
