Hi all hoping to get my major started today but have a few questions!

Firstly i have the mk2 major and a simms injector pump, is there an oil level i should check and where do i find it??

Any help or tips for running the engine the 1st time would be greatly appreaicated,

There is no oil level on the Mk 2 pump, oil is only in the governor housing of the Minimec Pump.

Only one way to run in your engine, straight into hard work! Do not idle, do not run light! work it as hard as possible but do not overload. Do not let it stand ticking over.

Sounds good. What oil pressure are you getting? As Brian says, you need to find a way of working the engine.
Another one of these fine machines good for another sixty years!

she is running like a clock im so pleased

There was that apprehensive moment when i 1st started and there was no oil pressure, but after about 5seconds its built up to just over 40psi

at low revs and tick over its still well over 40 and raises slightly when you rev it haha.

I have a slight concern, how far should "the screw" be set on the inector pump i had to keep winding it out as the engine would just stall after it would start? Also im getting abit of smoke comming out of the air intake at low revs, is this anything to worry about or does it just need a good days work to put it right. There cant be much wrong as she starts on the button, like a major should

When I started mine for the first time, it took about five seconds to fill the oil galleries and hit the gauge, and when it did it showed 44 psi with cold oil at tick over, rising a few psi with revs. Under work, with hot oil, she drops to 42psi on tick over, rising back to 44psi at revs.
In other words, identical to your results.
Looks spot on to me.

If you keep playing with the screw on the fuel pump you will find it easier to rebuild the engine next time as it will only be a short time before you have to start all over again

The screw should be set using the correct equipment to ensure the engine gets the right amount of fuel not just played with until you think it is right. This can result in excessive bore wear and possibly holes burn in the pistons.

Your best course of action now, with all the money you have already spent on the engine, is to get the pump into a diesel shop and get it calibrated correctly.

Sorry but I have to tell it like it is. Too many people think that just adjusting that screw is no real problem and do not know the harm it can do.

oh thats abit of a pain

i had the pump and injectors all re-conditioned, and when the pump came back the screw was just wound right in.

Looks like a trip back haha
