Power Steering Question

Post by Pepper Farms »

I’m looking to rebuild the power assist steering on my Super Major. The previous owner had tried at some point, but ended up making a mess of it. Now it fights you more than assists. Parts are hard to come by around here, but I know a local farmer who has 3 complete setups off of a 1060 Nuffield. Besides the steering and pitman arm being on the opposite side as the major, they look quite similar otherwise. Just wondering if anyone knows if parts are interchangeable?

Thanks.

Mounting on the opposite side of the tractor should not make any difference on the operation of the assist cylinder.

Personally, I would try to mount the whole thing, if it is serviceable. Will he lend you one to try?

Where in Ontario are you?

Only about an hour north of you - just outside of Exeter.

Cool, our Super Major came from Exeter in the mid-'70's. Drove it from there to our farm north of Woodstock.

Another thought for parts, since you are fairly close by, is Fawcett's in St. Mary's.

Some place that is a little closer you is Radford's in Londesborough. We got the lift for our E27N from him about 20 years ago. Not sure if he is still in business.
