The bearing had come out of it´s place and had been demolished by the first cam and tappet and one half of it thrown through the hole in the frontplate ending up behind the timing gears , and the other half was in the oilpan. This bearing have a partnumber 510E6261A Enfo

What are you using them for? I know you are using one for your boat and one for your tractor.

Today I have taken off the head of my 590e. First time ever, that I took a head off an engine, so pretty exciting for me.

Head doesn't looks too bad, I think, although the engine hasn't run for 30 years. The valves seems to be stuck although.
This is a picture of the rest of the engine after I have taken the head.

What do you think? Do you see anything, I should pay attention to?
Is it a good idea to keep the 12 rods in the same order of rank?
Or doesn't it matter?
With the valves it will be a good idea, I guess?

Yes there are two important things, one you should do and one you don´t. You should plug the nozzle holes and pipes to prevent dirt in them and you should never put the head on a suface without putting some support that keeps the nozzle tips from touching the surface. They protrude a little bit from the head and are easily damaged. I guess you have this thing ok. The rods are better to put back in the same order as they have been. That goes for anything you put back later.

I have put the head on 2 blocks, so it is not flat on the ground.
I didn't knew the exact reason (untill you just wrote me), but I though it would be wise to put it on blocks.

I have made some inspections of my engine (the one with the camshaft bearing problem) and found out that the crankshaft is machined to the first oversize and the connecting rod, piston and sleeve are new on the first cylinder and of course all the bearings. Perhaps the camshaft has got a hit of the first connectingrod and the the camshaft bearing has slowly begin to move out. I have put in the new camshaft bearing but it´s too tight. I have to do something about it.






Now I have got the bearing fixed and I try to put the camshaft in but it was stuck at half way. I measured the shaft that was outside the block and it show 0,25mm then i turn the shaft. I try the same thing with two others an they where ok. I polish one of them an put it in place and it seems ok now. The old bearing was propobly bent out from it´s place by the defect old camshaft that had been hit by the connecting rod some years earlier and then the engine was not repaired properly.

Do you have any idea how much an 590e weights (without the oil)?
