Hi,
I am looking for some help and advice if anybody can help me.
I have a new performance super major that i am trying to rebuild the lift top on
I have tried to follow the wiki instructions to set it up, but something seems wrong as i cannot get enough adjustment on the turnbuckle.
so far:
I have set the lift arms to be level with the gasket face
position / draft lever in qualitrol position
10mm gauge between control valve and cylinder face
the gauge only gets trapped when the main control lever is at the very top of the quadrant. in this position the spring between the top link and control valve only just compresses and measures no where near the 0.2" required, even with the turnbuckle fully out so only held by 1 thread.
This is the first super major I have worked on so have nothing to compare with.
if anybody has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
fred

Re: super major lift set up
Try reading the Ford manual sections, they mention special tools but not many.

Check the main control spring is tight enough, as otherwise everything will be out. Remember that wear will change how the adjustment will operate, as the bits are no longer in the same position relative to each other.

Thanks,
have already read those.
is there any information about the size of the special tools anywhere? can easily make something but will need to know dimensions.

Hi,
Mathias is right. you can do without the special tools. I allways used 10mm nut and a 13mm nut as a tool, imho with good results.
I think the design was for 3/8" and 1/2"
If your cam follower is ok and you have some usefull lifting equipement then the worst things are in control. The setting up is not too difficult actually.
