When I first checked timing on Hyacinth with the timing mark on flywheel at 26 the marks on the injector pump/timing plate were off by 1/8" or so. I thought I was out of adjustment, but realized yesterday I had looked at it the wrong way and now have it exactly aligned. While she started and ran good before, I feel like she gained on cold start time( Faster). Also, maybe less of that slobber out exhaust. While I understand hard work is one of the best remedies for this there will be no plowing for quite some time. Pulling logs does not even seem like much work as ground conditions are just right for it. Frozen ground with a light snow on top.
One question regarding the timing adjustment I have is now it seems a bit louder near injector, especially at low idle.
Clears up at faster idle, not just muffled by engine noise. Cap screws are tight.

Re: 55 injector timing
Thanks Sandy. I know they are noisy, I enjoy it. Maybe I was imagining it was louder/different.
Would you expect much difference in starting and running in general with such a small adjustment?
Somewhat related question: I have no reason to suspect governor diaphragm is compromised other than an assumption it is very old. I have a new one, but not sure if I should bother changing it. Idle and throttle response are both good.

Re: 55 injector timing
Personally i wouldn't bother touching it if all is good, they will last years. When it does need changing Hyacinth will certainly let you know, the revs will be all over the place!
My biggest fear is that when i die my wife will sell my tractors for what i told her they cost
Re: 55 injector timing
Thanks John, I'll keep it in the spares box!

Re: 55 injector timing
Agree 100% John, you'll most probably find the revs run away no matter how low the throttle is.
As far as the timing goes you should notice more power and better starting, but if you were in the narrow margin where the engine will run ok you probably won't notice it much.

Re: 55 injector timing
Thank you Sandy.
What wears that makes timing adjustment necessary?

Re: 55 injector timing
The drive pad in the coupling will eventually, although you might find that the claw bolts have allowed the flange to move and upset the timing, always make sure they're tight.

Re: 55 injector timing
The pump internals will wear/go out of ajustment over time
For more info om this subject se Shepps great writeups on it.

Re: 55 injector timing
The drive pad will wear far quicker on a well kept engine as the pump will be properly lubricated.
