Flail Mower

Post by nickfair »

Is the Dexta powerful enough for a 6 ft flail?

Depends on the crop.
For a heavy cut of hay, probably not. For topping pasture or cutting thistles, ok.

Thanks, looks a bit iffy then. I need to cut rough pasture, long grass, wild flowers at the end of the growing season.

You'll be better with a cutter bar mower, that was what was around when Dexta's were new. If power is an issue you can always remove the flails in part of the mower, always do so in a way that ensures perfect balance.

Thanks Sandy, good idea. I have a finisher rotary mower which I've put spacers in to raise the height of cut but it won't cope with long grass etc. I guess the other option is to get a topper if the flail is likely to be too much for it.

Don’t use the full width of cut, vary it to suit conditions.
