Live clutches were optional, and until December 62 all tractors so fitted had a badge or decal. I always encourage when Major's are involved, but things can be trickier depending on what it needs doing; nothing we can't help with here. Power Major's are a good choice, but then any Major is!

Re: My Dexta Experience
The majors were always a great work horse.
Regarding serving on a Dexta Sandy.
I take it this is a vacuum pump not a mechanical one?

Does it have a guze or filter needs cleaning or replacement? I’m currently looking into it but I can’t nail down what type my one is.
Is 15W 40 recommend/okay for engine oil? The gearbox SAE-30? I’m not too sure if the hydraulic oil is the same as the gearbox?
On the online manual it shows a gauze in the oil sump. I take it to be good practice to clean this too? And replace the gasket.
I’m not familiar with the back axel area, does it require any specific oil?
I have hard copy manuals on order, but I’ve greased all the outlets I could find.
Just curious to whatever should be done too (steering box or anything)
Cheers again

Re: My Dexta Experience
It's a minimec, you want to replace the oil in there every time you change the engine oil (200 hours). There's no governor air filter. I always recommend using the original spec (SAE20 HD or SAE 30 HD universal oil, or before universal oils came in SAE 90 in the gearbox and rear axle), having said that we do actually use 15W40 SHPD (engine), SAE 90 for the rest. The steering box takes SAE 90. The sump strainer needs cleaning when you change the engine oil. Fit a new paper gasket, you can make yourself some with a ball pein hammer and gasket paper. Hydraulics use rear axle oil. Jobs to do recommends on how it runs and similar details. If things look ok leave them alone, if not then see what you think. If in doubt don't hesitate to ask, one or other of us will know what to do.

Re: My Dexta Experience
Excellent stuff, what kinda of hours would be classed as high for a tractor like this 8-10k?
15W40 for engine. SAE 90 for everything else so.
I have a new filter for the oil bath, I take it that’s the same as the engine oil.
Thanks again Sandy

Re: My Dexta Experience
I think Billy has done 30000 hours plus, and I've heard of some having done 50000 hours, wear on the pedals will give a reasonable idea. Air filter is the same as the engine oil. Watch out for poor fit with new parts.

Cheers again Sandy.
I’ll keep you posted on how I get on. Might help another person down the road.
I’ll be tackling the gear lever saga down the road too. I’ll take and post a few pictures as a go.
