RAL blue and orange

Post by 123Dexta »

Does anyone know the RAL paint code for the blue used on a Ford Dexta? Also, I'd appreciate the code for the orange used on the wheels, if possible.

There is no such thing, the colours were specifically made for Ford. The best thing to do is to match some at a paint shop if you can. Aftermarket companies sell paints claimed to be right but it's not always true, that you'll need to check yourself or see what people say about it, we got some Agriline stuff that was good but that was over 10 years ago so don't know if it's still true.

In the 1950's-60's and maybe even later, quality control on the paint colours used probably throughout the automotive industry was not so tight/high level as it is now. The paint used for tractors was lower quality than shiny showroom cars so any variation that was seen was covered by a shrug of the shoulders and a "so what difference will it make?". The colour variation will also be due to different suppliers contracted over the years. So anything remotely like "Fordson Blue" would be used in the factory. Remember that the tractors only received a single coat and it was a quick spray job. On the inner faces of my radius arms there is only red oxide as the blue never got sprayed there! So please don't get too het up over the paint colour as there were variations during the manufacturing lifespan back in those days.

I don't belive Ford did change supplier, but colours did vary throughout production. It was actually two coats, but a very quick and functional affair, with no consideration to anything like a good finish, just cover up the areas to protect from rust. Not only were areas missed, but others had runs and other features of a quick spray. The only red oxide used (the only primer used on these tractors) is on rough casting, before the machine shop, so anything other than that would only get two coats of blue (or the colour appropriate to part and period).

Very interesting and handy. Always good to find a good match, often Brian suggested Howard orange, but that might be a bit difficult to find these days too. Colours did vary, but a good base is always better. If it matches your original colour, what more can you ask for!

Partnumber for 1 Liter is : 73332886
you can get the Blue only from a CNH-Dealer.

I assume you use Empire blue. Ford Tractor blue is far too dark, and isn't "green" enough. If available it's a good place as they should still have the specs. Others make these paints too but as usual there's no telling other than by checking if it'll be correct.

Yes,it do very well. For me it was/is the best solution to give an old tractor new clothes. The tractor is a E1ADKN TVO from Sept. 1952 (1240819).My other Tractor is a County Super Six (based on a NPSM / E1A from ca 06.1964 ).The County is in the correct Colours too, all from CNH ordered.

That's good to know the NP colours are also available, we had to mix some up, but fortunately managed to get a good match very quickly. Just looked at some of your old posts, they both look great, lucky escape with the vapouriser.
