Oil be back.......

Post by Dextrous »

I'm having difficulty finding a retail supplier of 20W/30 HD engine oil as per Brian's sticky post.

I've found some SUTO (Super Universal Tractor Oil) that I can buy cheaply at about £60 including delivery for 25 litres.

The oil is 15W/30 but has the wet brake additive, is this OK to use in my dexta? I intend to use it in the engine and tranmission.

Regards

I would not put it in any of my tractors. It would be OK for gearbox and hydraulics but not in the engine.

You could go to Halfords and get some of their own brand basic diesel engine oil which would be better for the engine.

Thanks Brian - I won't buy it.

As you replied I just found this link that fits the bill http://www.pjhtractorparts.co.uk/qualit ... reases.htm and its cheaper.

Qualube Classic Universal Oil - 20W/30 without brake additives - £40 for 25 litres.

Looks like I've found what I'm looking for - I'm suprised it was that difficult to find.

Cheers
Andy

Hello everyone
I have found 20/30 oil very hard to find now
David brown recommended it for there older engines and our local case/ih dealer used to sell it but dont any more
Shell sold an engine oil, but it now only sell there universal oil which can still be bought in 20/30 grade (harvella s). Our shell dealer told me to use 15/40 instead.
I would like to know who still makes or supplies 20/30 engine oil in 25 litres

Hi Potty

These guys still make it http://www.withamgroup.co.uk/vintagelubs.html its called Qualube Classic Universal Oil.

This retailer lists its but I haven't been in contact and some of the pricing has not been updated for a year or two so no guarantee they still sell it. http://www.pjhtractorparts.co.uk/qualit ... reases.htm

iITseems that most local garages an dealers do not stock the recomended 20/30 or stright 3o oil , it mostely will be 15w/40 . This is alright but then its hard to know if all 15w/40 diesel will do as there is so many makes to chose from, it would be handy to know if standered diesel /petrol , engine 15/40 minerel motor car oil be ok for the dexta engine or does it have to be tractor oil, this can be so confusing , it would be helpful also if we could have afew names of oil which can be bought a local uk garage which would save all this confusion, Gerry

I happen to be lucky because I live 20 minutes from Agriline and it's only a 15 minute detour, on a frequent business commute, to Old 20.
However, enough bragging :D

I buy my engine oil from Agriline.
25 Litres at a time, good old fashioned 'straight' SAE 30, as per the manual.
It's made by Bepco.
Last drum I bought, a year ago, was 26.50 GBP

For the hydraulics, transmission etc. I found Old 20 were the cheapest for Athena SAE 90 made by Exol.

Of course, both companies deliver but, try Googling the manufacturers (Bepco and Exol) for local suppliers.

Mike

Hi Mike thats handy for you but the likes of me who only have small local garages to get their oil from an these will say that their oil will do ever thing as long as they get a sale. All of the places that i have tried where i am in ireland dont seem to know what your talking about when you ask for 20/30 or astright 30 engine oil , the oils they have are for moderen cars and tractors, they will have 20/50 for petrol clasic cars but not clasic diesel tractors. It would be very akward if everytime you where needing an oil change you have to get on line , Ihave 15w/ 40 in my dexta at the moment but dont know if it is doing any harm as i dont know if it is for morden tractors or what and this seems to be the norm with most people, it would be nice to have a name of a modern oil that will do our old tractors, Well i think i have spouted off enought on the this ,Heres hoping Gerry

I'm using Castrol Agri Power (think it is 15W40) for about 8 years now and no issues (at least issues are not getting worse than before)...
Used for both Engine/ gear box and Rear Axle (incl lift) . Ok, I admit, the O-rings on the lift are more leaking but I'm to busy with other things to replace them with new ones.

I walked into my local filling station and they have had a bit of a revamp and enlarged the shop about 3 fold. And in the corner was lots of gallon containers of 30HD at £11.

So I've bought a couple for now, its from company called "Silver Hook" who seem to have a vast array of oils.

They are wholesale but you could contactthem and find out the nearest distributor.
