Looking very good Huzey - what type of sprayer are you using?

Thanks for the compliment. I am using my Devilbis spray gun that I bought over 20 years ago, and it has lasted quite well in that time. I have used it for spraying everything from land rovers and tractors to milk floats and motorbikes. Runs off my compressor though it does need quite a volume of air to get the best out of it.

Not a very productive day yesterday. Took me all day to remove the tyres and clean up the rear rims. Struggled a bit as I only had some small tyre levers. Got there in the end, and have ordered some longer ones to fit the new tyres.

Got a couple of coats of paint on the rims today, though not the best paint job in the world, along with re-lining one set of brake shoes and freeing of the brakes so have actually got 1 working brake! Other side to do tomorrow, along with everything else that needs doing! Want to have it back together in 2 weeks.

Back here in the North East US, we had 29 strait days of rain in June which was a record breaker.

I hope it is not a catching disease that is spreading around the globe so that you can get back on the Fordson real soon. It is looking real good.

Well, it has been another lovely day here, so have been spraying a few more bits and pieces. Sprayed up the linkage, battery tray, drum covers and seat today. Got them all fitted this afternoon, apart from the right hand linkage which will be fitted in the morning. Got the tyres fitted to the rims during the week, and fitted them in the rain yesterday evening.

Tomorrow, after fitting the linkage, it will be clean up the wings, fuel tank and bonnet and try and get them painted as well ready for fitting during the week.

Thanks for the interest and compliments Pascal and Dandy Dave. I am really enjoying doing this. So much better than working on cars and Land Rovers as I have done in the past.

Hello,

I have removed the timing gear cover and engine mounting plate. The bolts that were through the plate into the engine (those that are secured with the metal strips) were only hand tight. I could easily unscrew them with no force at all on my wrench. I don't think that’s normal and this I think must be the reason that it was leaking. How tight must the bolts be put into the engine. I have no Newton wrench.

How far are you with your rebuild and spraying?

Anyone needs a new mounting plate? I have a spare one. The old one is still good to use.

Got the wings painted and fitted, painted the bonnet and the fuel tank, but I am going to have to do the tank again as it didn't come out too well. Too many

The bottom was ok, but the top was awfull. Still dodging the rain at the moment, and work seems to be getting in the way as well!

You do not have to be as fussy with the paint on a tractor, as you do with the restoration of an automobile. In my humble opinion, this makes tractors much more enjoyable to do. Of course there are those in the hobbie that over restore a tractor from time the time, and they stick out like a sore thumb as they never came from the factory painted "Super Gloss Candy Apple Red."

This is very true Dave, but the fuel tank was awfull, it had more runs than the london and new york marathons put together. I would have to sit and look at it every time I drove it, and it would have driven me nuts! I think I have sorted it now though.

I have done a bit of dent pulling this afternoon. Got the nose cone a bit straighter. Going to have a tinker with a hammer tomorrow to try and true it all up, then on with the rubbing down and painting.

Where we are today.
The old tyres are going to be fitted to a Nuffield. Had a look at the starter motor today as well as removing the old front tyres, and getting a few more bits and pieces ready for cleaning up and painting tomorow.

I know I would have repainted it also with that many runs!

Even on a tractor, The hood, grill, and fenders all need to look good for a decent job.

Say, I notice your head lights are on top. I've seen them in two different positions on the side of the grill, and in the grill on a super. Not sure if I have seen them on the top before? Wondereing what the rest of the gang has to say? Dandy Dave!

I expect the lights are as high as possible because its a loader tractor ?, lower down a buckets blocks them too much. Very impressed with the work, looking good

Dave is dead right, Dave.

The lights are on the top as it has got a loader fitted, and I think the boom would knock the lights off the side as it goes up and down.
Thanks Dave for the compliments. Just got the front wheels sprayed up in orange, and a few of the ancilliaries in blue like the air filter, rad and starter motor, and will be fitting the blue bits this evening.
Then, the nose is coming back off for a bit more fettling, then a clean up with the wire brush on the grinder and a re-paint, fitting the tyres to the front wheels and sticking them back on, re-fill with oil, bleed the fuel system and fit the number plate and off we go!
Got the lights to fettle as well, but was going to do that on these long dark winter nights in front of the telly.
Will try and get another piccy this evening.

Nose repaired and sprayed yesterday, but sadly it has bloomed on the top where I wasn't quick enough to get it in the kitchen overnight, so am going to have to respray it. Thought I would fit it anyway. Front wheels also sprayed and new tyres fitted.

Hi Mervyn.
Blooming is where the paint absorbs moisture from the atmosphere before it is fully dry, and it goes cloudy or milky and looses gloss and basicly looks crap!

Another couple of photo's of the ongoing project. Still got the back lights to do, and sort out the drawbar, and re-seal the loader rams, and get her running again, but apart from that, nearly there.
Are the grills about the right colour, Brian?
