injector pump coupler clatter
Hi all using the major today and noticed the coupler was louder than normal, and at idle engine seemed a bit uneven. so I wrapped a jubilee clip around coupler and all went quiet and ticking over a lot better
Is there any reason I can't leave this as a permanent fix or should I do a proper job of fixing it. is it a hard job to change
it's a minimec pump any info would be appreciated.
Re: injector pump coupler clatter
Hi, mine was quite clattery, so I changed it over, although it was on a vacuum governed pump. Its very simple, I disconnected all the pipes to the pump and unbolted it, slid the old coupler out, slid the new one in and put the pump back on in exactly the same position.
I would think after doing it , its probably a good idea to check the timing is right also

Re: injector pump coupler clatter
When I was a kid my dad wedged popsicle sticks in the coupler and then wrapped it up with electrical tape, It actually ran that way for several years. there is a vendor or two that sell the urethane pads, I have used several of theses and like them, they are quiet and reasonably priced, but the trade off is you loose the trademark rattle of the pump, its kind of like a Harley with quiet exhaust....something just doesn't quite sound rite.

Its the sound of a Major, just change it with a better coupler its not a hard job to do, go by post 2.
Don't just leave it in the shed, Fordson's are made to work, so take it out and work it....!

Re: injector pump coupler clatter
I finally got around to changing the pad got an agriline one, jubilee clip looked a bit bodge
when I took it apart I noticed the bolts that allow adjustment were too long and we're pressing against pump so I think that's why the pad seemed so noisey , so shortened bolts new pad and changed oil in pump and it's quieter than it's ever been happy days

Re: injector pump coupler clatter
Silent, I've just bought a new performance major and that's sounds noisey compared to this so I may have to change that one as well. I no people say the major should have the clatter but I like the quiet
